Climbing Mt Kilimanjaro- Rongai Route
RONGAI ROUTE
This route begins on the Northern side of the mountain and is the least traveled route. The rewards are the fantastic views and the likelihood that you will be the only climbers on the ascent. The descend is via Marangu route.
Day-1-Arrive Moshi
You will be met on arrival and treansfered to your hotel in Moshi. Overnight at Keys Hotel
Day-2-1st cave (2600m)
After breakfast we depart on a long transfer to the north side of the mountain to the peak gate. Hike to 1st Cave Camp-approximately 2-3 hours. Overnight Camping.
Day-3-Kikelewa Caves (3800m)
Early in the morning, you will begin trekking out past the 2nd cave, and on to the 3rd cave. This is at an altitude of 3800m and will take you about 6-7 hours. The climb today is relatively difficult, taking you through the forest and well in the moorland. Overnight Camping.
Day-4-Mawenzi Tarn (4330m)
Today you continue ascending to Mawenzi Tarn Hut, which stands at 4330m and takes about 7 hours to get there. Overnight Camping.
Day-5-Kibo Camp(4730m)
Depart from Kibo Hut, will take you 4-5 hours to get to your camp for the night. Here you will need to rest early as the next days trek starts just after midnight. Overnight Camping.
Day-6-Uhuru Peak (5895m)
This is your most difficult days climb. Beginning very early and takes you up the steep point of Gillmans point (5895m). trek on to the crater rim for sunrise, the journey should take about 7-8 hours. Continue on to Uhuru Peak (5895m) and then begin your descent back to Horombo Hut, about 4-7 hours, depending on how tired you are. Overnight Camping.
Day-7-Horombo Hut to Moshi
The journey back to the park gate will take in the region of 5-6 hours. Here you will be met and head back to the Keys Hotel for your overnight Stay.
Day-8-Moshi
After breakfast you may be transferred to Arusha .End of Kili.
